Basic Italian, Language and Culture - Spring 2018

Ah, Italy, the sights, the sounds, the smell of the food, the taste of the cappuccino. This class is Italian for Beginners where you'll learn the fundamentals of the language and culture in a fun-filled way, from a native who's lived in Italy for over 30 years. Along with learning the Italian language, you'll be introduced to Italian cultural norms. You'll discover and appreciate the subtleties of Italian daily life, and you'll learn many interesting facts about the history, art, and the passions of Italian people. Driving Dynamics - Spring 2018

The Maine Driving Dynamics Course offers all drivers the opportunity to improve their defensive driving abilities. This five-hour course will include discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine's highways. A certified Maine Driving Dynamics instructor teaches the course, and the course format engages students with lectures, videos, and class discussion/participation. Those completing the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record. Course can be taken for credit only once every 365 days. (If not on time, you will not get credit for class.) 


Guided Autobiography: Discovering Your Story - Spring 2018

Guided Autobiography (GAB) is fun, fascinating, and surprising. You'll be led through themes and priming questions to evoke memories of known and/or forgotten events. Weekly, everyone writes a two-page story, brings it to class, and reads it to a small group of classmates. GAB is an ideal way to put life events into perspective. It's self-discovery. It?s gaining a greater appreciation of your life. It's a powerful catalyst for improved self-confidence and communication. GAB writers often report new energy, decreased anxiety, and a feeling of connectedness and friendship. And please note: writing tips are offered, but it's not a creative writing class' it's about revisiting and responding to episodes in your life. No class April 19th

Writing the Short Story - Spring 2018

Well, here's your chance to turn your dreams into reality. In this class, you'll learn step-by-step the key components of the short story. You'll learn how to begin a story and how to end it. We'll discuss structure, characterization, details, theme, setting, metaphor, and other important elements needed to turn your thoughts into a clever story that people will love to read. Part of our time will be spent on reading and discussing classic short stories from well-known authors. By the end of this class, you should have a completed short story ready for publishing! Oh, yes, we'll even talk about how and where to publish your story for the world to read. Share your talents. Join us for a fun-filled learning experience that's sure to change how you write and the way you look at a story. Instructor Gerard Bianco holds an MFA in Writing.
